The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an approach to the religious formation of children rooted in the Bible, the Liturgy of the Church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children gather in an “atrium”, a room prepared for them, which contains simple yet beautiful materials that they use to ponder the mysteries of our faith. We will be meeting weekly on Wednesdays as part of Family Faith for Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade children. There will also be a Level 1, (ages 3-5) Level 2, (grades 1-3) and Level 3, (grades 4-6) offered on Tuesday morning and afternoons. During the Tuesday morning session there is opportunity for small group studies.
Our offerings for children in grades 4-5 are continuing with the Sophia Institute Curriculum with a focus on art and culture. Grade 6 will continue with a scripture study of salvation history and Grade 7 will be studying the Pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Recognizing parents as the primary educators of their children in faith, parents will join their children on-site periodically for Catholic parenting education, catechesis, liturgical experiences and parent-child activities. We will offer Parent Enrichment Nights (PEN) once a month with speakers and topics of interest to parents of children all ages.
Children in grade 2 are prepared for the Sacraments of Reconciliation (in February) and Eucharist (in May) during Family Faith. Parents are directly involved in helping their children prepare for these sacraments by teaching at home materials, attending parent informational sessions, retreats, practices, and celebrations.
Our Kick-off Celebration is scheduled for September 16 and we anticipate meeting weekly.
Confirmation is open to students in grade 8 – 12 who desire to receive this Sacrament. Youth will meet weekly on Wednesday evenings 6:00-7:30 pm. Students at Epiphany School will meet during their regular Theology Class times. All candidates will gather for 7 Sunday sessions on Sunday mornings after the 9am Mass from 10:30am – 12:00 noon, accompanied by a parent and/or sponsor. Those dates are as follows: September 20, October 11, November 22, January 24, February 21, March 7, and April 25.
Confirmation formation is focused on accompanying candidates as they integrate faith into their everyday life as a Disciple of Christ. This includes large and small group discussions, prayerful worship, a youth ministry retreat, service experiences, and personal reflections that allow the youth to be fully immersed in their faith. Parent and sponsor participation are vital to formation and the integration of faith and life. PLEASE NOTE: Confirmation preparation is entrusted to parishes. Youth enrolled in a Catholic school desiring to be confirmed need to register for the entire Confirmation program. The Youth Ministry Retreat that is required for Confirmation will have a separate fee. More information will be given at the first Fall session.
Little Lambs is for children 3 yrs – K. The program takes place during the first half of the Mass. With catechists, the children experience the weekly Gospel through storytelling, hands on activities, and music. The goal is for the young children to grow in God’s love and participate more fully in the beauty of the Mass. Children join their families after the Homily.
Youth in grades 9-12, not registered for Confirmation, are invited to register for E3 High School Ministry. We are focusing on small group ministry and look forward to placing you in a small group with old and new friends. Once a month, we will provide opportunities for all high school youth to come together in community. No payment required.
