In addition to Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, children receive ongoing help at home from their parents and guardians. Materials are provided by the parish. Parent/guardian participation is an essential component of sacramental formation and preparation. Parents partner with the parish ensuring children are prepared for the reception of the sacraments.
First Reconciliation preparation in the fall begins the process for students to receive their First Eucharist in the spring.
First Reconciliation Parent Information Meeting: One parent must attend one of the two offered sessions. This is a mandatory meeting in order for your child to receive the sacraments this year.
Reconciliation Retreat and Reception of Sacrament: At the First Reconciliation Parent Information Meeting in October, there will be an opportunity for parents to sign up for a time slot to attend the First Reconciliation Retreat. At this retreat, parents and their child will review what they learned in their months of preparation for this sacrament. This retreat will be time of prayer and reflection, to prepare the heart of the child who is making his/her First Reconciliation. The Sacrament of First Reconciliation will be received on the same day as the retreat, directly following the completion of the retreat.
First Eucharist Parent Information Meeting: One parent must attend one of the two offered sessions. This is a mandatory meeting in order for your child to receive First Communion this year. Your child’s newly issued baptismal certificate is due into the parish at this time. You will also have the opportunity to sign up for a First Communion Mass if you have all of your needed paperwork in. FYI, there is limited seating for each Mass.
Eucharist Retreat: Parents and child will review preparation for the sacrament and have a time of prayer. You will be able to sign up for a retreat time slot at the First Eucharist Parent Information Meeting.
